Mr. Yeoh had suggested
to us about the activity of mapping and we would like to carry out the mapping
during our project. So, we started the activity on the second day of our Social
Engagement project without any hesitation.
We planned to sketch out the map with name of shops at the
whole Petaling Street area, including the former and present shops. We hoped to
understand more (such as history, society life and economy) about this area via
this community mapping.
We have divided ourselves into 3 teams that in charge of
different job in the mapping, which is a team of map drawing (indoor) members
and 2 teams of sites-investigate (outdoor) members. The trio had showed a work
of full-cooperation and high-tacit understanding. Therefore, we are able to
complete the community map in approximately 3 days.
We got the chance to look into many old shops at Petaling
Street and learned about the old time of Petaling Street when we walk around
the area to record those places. As a member of outdoor’s team, I have chatted
with some shop owner and hawkers. It enable me to get to know of the former
shop and some life evidences at that area.
Last but not least, I am really grateful that I got the
chance to study on Petaling Street’s area. Undoubtable, it will be a memorable
and valuable experience for all of us.
